Mono Monde, 2023

bronze, Azul Macaubas

96.7 x 54.1 x 55.5 cm

A lightweight stackable Monobloc chair carries a perfectly round stone globe. First produced in the early 1970s, it is frequently described as the world's most common plastic chair and can therefore be seen as a symbol of capitalism. It is often found in developing countries where it provides practical and essential support, all the while symbolically bearing the weight of the world. Alicja Kwade’s Mono Monde, with its damaged leg, represents the multi-layered relationship between consumption and the complexities of globalization.
