Alicja Kwade transforms the church space of St. Agnes in Berlin into a sound- and light-installation that is based on the Foucault pendulum. The Foucault pendulum is named after the French physicist Léon Foucault. It’s a simple device conceived to demonstrate the rotation of the Earth in an easy-to-see experiment. Alicja Kwade placed this experiment in the exhibition space and instead of using the original lead bob she hung a light bulb. Thus, the dark space is illuminated by only one light source and each swing is amplified by a sound system.
